What the library can offer you ; Glenelg Libraries is a part of Libraries Victoria library consortium giving members access to more than 2.5 million items and over 100 libraries across Victoria free of charge.

A welcome Place; Our libraries provide comfortable spaces to read, browse,study, research and mingle. Each branch has free PCs and wi-fi available for use. Our staff are friendly and helpful and professional resource at your disposal

What does it cost. Portland library has a large and small meeting room available for hire. Volunteer-run groups can use the facilities for free, during normal business hours.

Charges apply for copying, printing,,late returns, damaged or lost items.

How do I borrow?

You will need to produce your library card or photo identification

How many items can I borrow?

There is no limit on items being borrow

How long can I keep the items?

For all books, magazines, CDs and DVDs the loan period is three weeks. The due date for return is printed on the docket. The library can also alert you when the item is due via email or an SMS message.

Can I have them for longer? 

Yes items will be automatically renewed for a further three weeks as long as on one else has a hold on the item.

What if the book I want is at another branch?

You can hold an item from any of the Libraries Victoria libraries at no cost. We email call or SMS when the item is available. Items not in the Libraries Victoria collection may be able to be loaned from other libraries for a small fee.

Terms and Conditions

Users must be current members of the library in order to borrow items.

A membership card should be presented each time an item is borrowed.

Overdue fines are charged for library materials not returned or renewed by the due date on all adult cards. No overdue fines apply to junior/youth cards

$2.00 per adult item per week Charges in excess of $50 may result in the loss of library privileges

If a member has borrowed an item that has been lost, stolen or damaged, the member must pay the value or a portion of the replacement value.

The library has the right to suspend library membership for;

Failure to return items or pay penalties

Failure to pay replacement costs for damaged or lost items

Repeated damage to library materials

Misuse of internet and facilities

Disorderly behaviour
