Budj Bim is a long dormant volcano. Budj Bim is the source of the Tyrendarra lave flow which extends over 50 km to the South West. It is central to the history of the Gunditijmara people.
Mt Eccles National Park is Victoria’s first co- managed National Park. The park is managed by the Gunditijmara Traditional Owners and Parks Victoria. The parks tranquil crater lake and pleasant bush land surrounds make it an ideal place for picnicking, bush walking and camping. Nature trails follow the old crater rim.
Parks Victoria acknowledge the Aboriginal Traditional Owners including their parks and reserves.
Through their cultural traditions Aboriginal people maintain their connection to the ancestral lands and water.
