Hooked on Tuna Fishing Competition

The Hooked on Tuna Fishing Competition is hosted annually by Glenelg Shire Council with assistance from the Portland Sports Fishing Club and Portland Lions Club.

The competition offers $10,000 worth of prizes, including a weekly$1000 for the heaviest catch.

Competition Overview

The annual Portland Hooked on Tuna fishing competition runs over 4 weekends.

The first round will take place on Saturday April 2nd and Sunday April 3rd and will take place over the following weekend with the final round taking place on April 23rd and 24th to coincide with the annual Hooked on Portland seafood fishing festival.

The competition takes place within Portland waters, and competitors can fish up to 40 nautical miles from Lawrence Rocks.

Prizes

A total cash prize pool of $10,000 is up for grabs

  • $1000 each weekend for the heaviest catch
  •  Overall heaviest catch – $3000
  •  Overall first runner up $2000
  •  Over all second runner up $1000

Competition Rules

Fishing Times

  • Saturday  6-30 am to 4-00 pm
  •  Sunday 6-30 am to 3-00 pm

Weigh in Times

  • Saturday 4-00 pm to 5-00 pm
  • Sunday 3-00 pm to 4-00 pm

Boats are not to depart the harbour any earlier than 6-30 am on each fishing day

Weigh-ins will occur at the Old Boat Ramp in front of the Yacht Club. The final presentation will take place at the Portland Yacht Club on Saturday 24th April 2022 from 3-00 pm.

Terms and Conditions

All fish must be presented bled, or bled,gilled and gutted preferably on ice.

On line registrations for weekend only entry will close at midnight Friday the day the date of entry.
