Artists Of The Valley

Artists of the Valley

Casterton is fast developing a reputation as an enclave for talented artists. visitors will  find galleries in Casterton and nearby Sandford plus a co-operative space at Gorman’s Art Gallery.

This group operates under the banner “Artists of the Valley” offering space for talented local and regional artists. This gallery offers a pleasant break with its selection of vibrant art works in a permanent but ever changing exhibition.

The gallery lies behind a distinctive yet somewhat deceptive “Real Estate” facade and presents a myriad of styles and mediums from refined to quirky. All of these art works are for sale, at very realistic prices.

Each year over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June Gorman’s Art gallery hosts and exhibits Casterton’s annual Clarice Beckett Art Award. Clarice Beckkett ( 1885- 1936) was a noted Australian painter who was born in Casterton but who has paintings in collections at the National Gallery of Australia as well as state galleries in Victoria, South Australia and internationally.

Resident artists exhibiting at Gorman’s Art Gallery include;

Julie Kent, Collin Tenney, Jenn White plus more than twenty others.

While in Casterton also be sure to view the distinctive European style, yet Australian themed art of Almar Zaadstra, working with oils on canvas the fine detail in Almar’s works accurately depict early farming practices and costumes of the era. His depiction of hard working Clydesdale Horses gives great realism to the nostalgic images. Almar now has paintings in collections Australia wide.
